Galway are still undefeated in this Championship and if they had a fully fit and firing trio of Comer, Walsh and Kelly, I would give them a live chance of causing an upset.

You know the phoney war is over once the All-Ireland quarter-finals roll around. Having said that, last year’s quarter-finals looked brilliant on paper but spectacularly failed to deliver; here’s hoping for better fare this weekend.

But their full-back line has to be a concern for Dessie Farrell. The Mayo and Roscommon full-forward lines alone scored 14 points from play/marks in two group games against them. Matthew Tierney and Cillian McDaid have returned from long lay-offs along with Damien Comer, who I was really surprised to see back last week against Monaghan.

To me, he is playing in bursts; he can kick two points in 10 minutes and then not be seen for a half an hour. I wrote here a couple of weeks ago how so much of Derry’s problems were quite an easy fix. They have improved their defensive structure and cut out much of the kamikaze tactics. In last year’s semi-final they were at their absolute best when they attacked Kerry in waves. I don’t see Mickey Harte being as adventurous this weekend with all that’s happened to them already in this year’s Championship.
