“The most valuable item in my collection is a Vivienne figurine,” says Pavel.
recalls decorating the family Christmas tree with paper snowflakes and “the cheapest ornaments”, many of them “improvised” from other household items. “After the holidays, of course, everything got thrown away,” he recalls now. “In a 40-square-metre apartment, there’s no room to store items like that. I would give anything to have some mementos of those celebrations with my family now.”So, after welcoming children of his own, Pavel decided to begin a collection designed to last forever.
While organising a charity gala for work, he sourced’s Tommy glasses for the guests – leading him to discover the French workshop’s delicate crystal bells, made to a design lifted from a fin-de-siècle archival drawing. “Seeing how the oldest glass manufacturer in France – which has been around for more than 500 years – spent hundreds of hours creating these masterpieces, just amazed me.
