The operation, conducted from July 27 to August 29, is part of a broader nationwide ICE arrest initiative amid White House pressure to reach 2,000 daily arrests. Officials described it as targeting the worst criminals, but federal data shows most July detainees had no criminal record, only civil immigration violations. The push comes amid tensions with Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani, whom Mullin criticized for refusing to cooperate with federal enforcement efforts.
