Many people may not be aware that they may be entitled to a grant every two years that it worth €1,000 if they meet two criteria and have the right PRSI contributions

Under the Treatment Benefit Scheme, you could receive the grant if you meet two additional conditions.

However, it is only available to insured workers, the self-employed and retired people who have the required number of PRSI contributions. The Department will provide up to €1,000 towards the cost of a pair of medical contact lenses, which is €500 for each contact lens, once every two years. People who have the correct amount of PRSI contributions are also entitled to a free eyesight test, once every two years. However, sight tests for VDUs and driving licences are not covered under the scheme.

The examination is provided by opticians, optometrists or ophthalmologists who have a contract with the Department of Social Protection.
