Tens of thousands remain without power across Ireland, a week after Storm Éowyn struck. Many citizens, particularly in rural areas, are expressing frustration and concern over the prolonged outages and the government's response, highlighting the vulnerability of essential infrastructure.
Some 45,000 people are still without power 10 days after Storm Éowyn battered the country, leaving those in rural areas feeling that the Government “doesn’t really care”.
“It’s great having a new modern house but when everything runs on electricity and then you don’t have power or water, you are stuck in limbo. One of our neighbours has an electric car and they had to get a hotel because he couldn’t drive to work.” He said: “It’s difficult trying to wash bottles and sterilise bottles and make sure he is warm, it was very stressful but we are so lucky he is a great little boy and he’s happy and content.
“Should the wires be underground in areas where there is a lot of forestry? We are lucky Galway City wasn’t affected because if it was I think there would have been an outcry, but in the country they don’t really care.”
