Three American students were rescued by the local coastguard after they became stranded by the incoming tide on a beach.
The alarm was raised around 9pm last night and up to 20 members of Dingle coastguard rushed to the scene. The three students were trapped on a small ledge and members of the coastguard had to climb down the cliff using ropes to rescue them, RTE reports. They were suffering from early stages of hypothermia and were taken to University Hospital Kerry for medical treatment. He explained:"Because of the location we couldn’t rescue them by helicopter winch.
Coast Guard member Tom Kennedy added: "They were getting hypothermic and the ledge was in a very awkward area, difficult to access. It was great to have the big lights of the lifeboat and the helicopter. It made our job a lot easier."
