Following searches in the town on Friday night, officers have taken three men into custody
Detectives from the Terrorism Investigation Unit probing an attack in Strabane on Thursday evening have arrested three men on suspicion of the attempted murder of two police officers, it was reported early on Saturday morning. It follows an incident in which the PSNI believe that an improvised explosive device was fired at a passing police vehicle.
Officers from the Police Derry City and Strabane branch of the PSNI said that three men, one aged 28 and two aged 36, were arrested under the Terrorism Act and were taken into custody at the Serious Crime Suite at Musgrave Police Station in Belfast city centre. The arrests came in the wake of a number of searches that were conducted by officers in the town in County Tyrone on Friday evening.
The attempted murder investigation still continues and police are appealing to anyone with any information to come forward and contact them on 101. Additionally, information and any dashcam or CCTV footage can be provided to the police through their Major Incident Public Portal link.
For those not wishing to provide identity details, detectives are still asking potential witnesses to provide any information they can at the above link and can choose to remain anonymous. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
