Three people, all in their 20s, have been charged after a violent assault in Monaghan town left a man in his 40s critically injured. Declan Wallace, 47, was found badly injured on Park Road on Tuesday night and is currently fighting for his life in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. Gardaí suspect Mr. Wallace was attacked by multiple people using a bat as a weapon.

Three people have been charged over a serious assault that has left a man in his 40s fighting for his life.

Declan Wallace, 47, was discovered in a badly injured state on the street of Park Road in Monaghan town - after being violently assaulted sometime between 10pm and 11pm on Tuesday night. It is suspected he was attacked by a number of people using a bat as a weapon. It is feared Mr Wallace got into an argument and was attacked by a number of people who fled the scene. As a result of a suspected bleed to the brain, he was transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he remains fighting for his life.
