Around 14,000 Three Ireland customers are set to receive refunds totaling almost €4 million after an investigation by the Communications Regulator ComReg found the company failed to properly notify customers of roaming charges. The investigation revealed that customers did not receive messages informing them of roaming charges or lacked crucial information about these charges when traveling within the EU.

The overall refund comes to almost €4 million, and it follows an investigation by the Communications Regulator ComReg.

The investigation found that messages were not being received by customers notifying them of roaming charges, or did not contain required information in them. Upon arrival, customers should receive text messages or alerts about the data allowance and again if that allowance is used up. "Three Ireland will ensure that all consumers receive relevant messages at appropriate times, containing necessary information," ComReg said in a statement. "ComReg determined from the data provided by Three Ireland that certain customers had not received the appropriate notification when they reached either the €50 or €100 default limit as required from 1 July 2022 under Article 14 of the 2022 Roaming Regulation.
