Paul McEwan Lindsay was jailed for seven years in 2019 for the life-threatening assault on George Bell on a Hamilton street
A prison inmate who was jailed after a brutal assault on a man in Hamilton has died behind bars, the Scottish Prison Service has confirmed.
The 31-year-old died at HMP Addiewell in West Lothian last week. Police Scotland have been notified and his death will be probed in a Fatal Accident Inquiry, the Daily Record reports. Lindsay was originally accused of attempting to murder Mr Bell over the blade attack, but a jury at the High Court in Glasgow cleared him of this and found him guilty of the reduced charge.
Lindsay had a history of previous convictions for assault, with one incident involving a baseball bat and sword. He was a deemed "high risk" to the public.
