Severe thunderstorm warning issued for parts of Lake, Kane, DuPage and Cook counties until 1 a.m.
A severe thunderstorm warning was also issued for DeKalb County until 5:15 p.m.
Ping pong ball-sized hail and wind gusts of up to to 60 miles per hour were possible with the storms, according to the National Weather Service. According to the Storm Prediction Center, all Illinois counties that are in the NBC 5 viewing area, including McHenry, Lake, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Cook, LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, Will and Kankakee, are at a “slight risk” of severe weather on Monday afternoon.Lake County in Indiana is also under the"slight risk" categorization. Porter, LaPorte, Newton and Jasper counties are at a"marginal risk" of severe storms, a step below that classification.
