In August 2020, the couple was working late in their clothing store when police showed up, demanding they prove it was their shop. When a white neighbor confirmed this, the situation was diffused.

As part of the settlement, the town of Tiburon has agreed to create a community advisory board. Members will be able to help vet candidates for the Tiburon police department.
