Kennedy was hit with a 16-day ban for using his whip too many times on Stellar Story in the Grade 1 Channor Real Estate Group Novice Hurdle.

Title-chasing jockey Jack Kennedy is facing a long spell on the sidelines having been slapped with another huge whip ban at Punchestown - his second this week.

And just 24 hours later on Wednesday the Kerryman was given another whopping 16-day suspension after the same Punchestown stewards found him in breach of strict whip regulations on Stellar Story when finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Channor Real Estate Group Novice Hurdle. The ban could be crucial to Kennedy winning the jockey’s title. He currently leads Paul Townend by six winners going into the penultimate day of the Punchestown Festival on Friday but the six-time Cork champion has a number of fancied rides over the closing two days including State Man, Ballyburn and Lossiemouth.Jockeys are permitted eight strikes with the the whip in Ireland and because it was Kennedy’s fourth breach in a nine month period he was handed the 16-day ban on Wednesday.
