GPA say squeezed inter-county players want the pre season GAA competitions axed
GPA CEO Tom Parsons says the GAA should stop “squeezing” inter-county players and axe the pre-season competitions.
These include the Walsh Cup, FBD Connacht League, McKenna Cup, O’Byrne Cup and Munster Hurling League. They believe one of the main issues facing players, particularly inter-county footballers with more games due to a new championship format introduced this year, is that the season is now being condensed into six months.“Unfortunately, they’re not listening to the players on this matter and that’s the challenge we have,” said Parsons.“Then the changes happen through conflict so we don’t want to get to that point.
“They might need a longer time in pre-season to get ready to play in a Division 1 game or a McKenna Cup game in January.
