The Oscar-winning actor is in South County Dublin this weekend to discuss the release of his debut novel.

having spent time in the South Dublin village during the earlier stages of the Covid-19 pandemic.Now, it is bracing itself for another visit from feature film royalty, with Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks in town to discuss the release of his debut novel 'The Making of Another Motion Picture Masterpiece'.The event will be held inside Dalkey Church on Friday night on front of a sold-out audience, forming part of this weekend's captivating Dalkey Book Festival lineup.

Hanks novel was released last month, and is centred around a"colossal, star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film and the humble comic book that inspired it", as per its' official synopsis.Hanks has twice won the Oscar for Best Actor, winning the award in both 1994 and 1995 for his roles in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump.

The novel is Hanks' second toe-dipping into the genre of fiction, having had a collection of short stories published back in 2017, which were entitled 'Uncommon Type'. Also in attendance at this weekend's festival will be the iconic figure of U2 frontman Bono, with the Irish musician due to speak about his 2021 memoir 'Surrender' alongside Irish Times writer and author Fintan O'Toole.Other notable speakers over the course of the festival include Bono's U2 bandmate The Edge, comedian Ruby Wax and physicist/ television presenter Brian Cox.

The festival, which runs annually and was created by economist David McWilliams and Sian Smyth, aims to bring together thinkers from the worlds of literature, history, politics, journalism, comedy and science.
