Even if the recent ruling by the European Court of Human Rights results in curtailing the publication of the ‘name and shame list’, financial penalties will still sting anyone caught evading their obligations

As previously reported in these pages, the European Court of Human Rights has cast some doubt on the legality of our rules on the publication of the names of tax defaulters. This “name and shame” stick has been used in the past and it will take a Finance Bill to remove it.
