Met Police have drafted in around 1,000 extra officers in 'carefully planned operation' to deal with Tommy Robinson rally and counter-protestsAround 1,000 extra police officers have been drafted into London amid fears of clashes as protestors descended on the capital for three separate demonstrations., hundreds marched from outside the Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand shortly before 1pm on Saturday to Trafalgar Square.
At around the same time, a trans pride event was also taking place consisting of a march from Langham Place to Wellington Arch, where speeches will take place.Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove, who is in charge of the Met Police operation, said: “This weekend sees a number of groups with opposing views assembling in central London.
“Our first priority is to keep the peace to ensure that those exercising their right to lawful protest can do so safely. “Officers will intervene decisively to deal with any breaches of those conditions, prevent crime, and to respond to any other incidents.”One demonstrator was seen climbing on top of a phone box, while others held placards that read: “Not far right, just right”.
