Nessa Hurley and Anne O'Connell went about finding their birth families three years ago but viewers couldn't believe what happened next

Tommy Tiernan viewers were blown away by the extraordinary story of two friends on Saturday night who discovered they were sisters, having been adopted from a mother-and-baby home in the 1980s.

However, in October 2022, Nessa received a call from the adoption authorities informing her that they had located her birth sister, and it turned out to be her friend Anne. Many also expressed admiration for the two women, who emphasised that they have enjoyed perfectly happy lives, and said their only wish was for their birth mother to harbour no guilt about the situation.

“You just knew from reading the report that these women had to have felt guilt and felt a bit of shame. I wanted her to know that I was absolutely fine, I had grown up in a great family. And, you know, if she was feeling any guilt, to let it go. I was perfectly happy. “So, I said ‘Yeah, put me down.’ That was in January or 2021 and it wasn’t until October of 2022 that I got a call to say, we have matched you with someone,” added Nessa.

“This story is just unreal on the #tommytiernanshow amazing that they found one another,” added another.
