After starting his F1 career with Benetton, Verstappen was farmed out to Simtek for 1995 before joining Footwork for 1996.

Verstappen joined Tyrrell for 1997, did a half-season with Stewart and then threw his lot in with Honda’s abortive F1 project before returning to Arrows for 2000.By then, Walkinshaw had cancelled the troubled Brian Hart-led in-house engine project to pick up a supply of Supertec engines, which powered the team’s nimble A21.
