As Halloween approaches, a top plastic surgeon has warned people in Northern Ireland to be aware of the dangers of misusing fireworks.
"Unfortunately we still do see a number of fireworks injuries coming to us ourselves here in the Plastic Surgery Department. These tend to be the more severe blast and burn injuries while the minor ones would be dealt with in the Emergency Department," he said. "The injuries we see coming quite often affect young males, who can require multiple surgeries over many years to try to reconstruct or salvage something.
"With some of these injuries around the facial region, the scarring can be quite significant and very difficult to conceal so you simply can't hide that. One case that still stands out for the plastic surgeon involves a young boy who lost the majority of his hand due to a firework injury. Warning: Graphic images below While Mr Brown has not dealt with any serious firework injuries to date this year, police have already issued warnings on what fireworks can do after a series of reported incidents ahead of Halloween.
