Grassroots Tory politicians are divided over whether Rishi Sunak should be replaced as party leader before the local elections, with fears it could make their losses worse, a new poll suggests.
The poll shows a divide in opinion between those who voted for Mr Sunak to replace Boris Johnson in the summer of 2022 and those who backed eventual winner Liz Truss. Asked on LBC what her message was to the plotters, the Tory Cabinet minister said: 'I have said many times that people need to stop messing around and get behind the Prime Minister.
'That is what I want people to know about rather than who said what in the tea room in Parliament. It is just Westminster bubble gossip, it is not important.'
