Toxic dust from a demolition site next to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital caused contamination within its water supply, leading to deadly infections in patients.
“If I had been asked for my opinion at the time, I would have said there should have been a delay [in opening].” The Scottish Hospitals Inquiry was set up to look at issues around the building of both the QEUH campus and Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Children and Young People. It states there was “the presence of cockroaches, fungal odour, room not ventilated, water ingress and dried algae present on the floor”.
