People are being urged to 'avoid the area' - latest updates
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At approximately 8:30am this morning officers responded to reports of a concern for welfare of a male on Bell Lane in Bury. The incident is still ongoing."
Drivers are being warned to expect disruption. Both the northbound and southbound carriageways were initially blocked by police, but traffic is now able to use the southbound carriageway.Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has urged people to 'avoid the area'. Crews are currently in attendance.
Part of Rochdale Old Road is also currently closed off while emergency services deal with the incident. A diversion away from the M66 is in place.
