The man was found in the first-floor bedroom of his home in Bayswater Place by firefighters who had entered the house to put out the blaze. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
West Yorkshire Police were called to the street at 6.24pm on Thursday as worried residents gathered outside the home in Leeds.A spokesperson for the force said investigations into the cause of the fire will continue on Friday, but added there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the blaze at this time.
They said: "A man has died following a fire at a house in Leeds yesterday. At 6.24pm on Thursday, police were called to a fire at an address in Bayswater Place, Harehills. "Firefighters entered the property and extinguished the fire. A man was found in the first-floor bedroom and confirmed dead at the scene. Formal identification is yet to be completed, but he is believed to be the 63-year-old occupant of the address.
"Officers are continuing to liaise with fire service investigators to establish the cause but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and the Coroner’s Office has been informed."
