Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene of the fire
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services rushed to the scene of a fire near the train tracks between Freshfield and Ainsdale stations shortly after 2.55pm today . A tree trunk had set a blaze, bringing all train services to a stop in the area while the fire service attended.
The fire has now been put out, the fire service has confirmed. National Rail issued an update this afternoon following the incident, they said: "The fire brigade dealing with an incident near the railway between Freshfield and Ainsdale is causing disruption to services between Moorfields and Southport. Trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised to start / terminate at Formby."
A spokesman for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "A small fire on the track between Freshfield and Ainsdale stations at the fisherman's path crossing. Crews were alerted at 2.53pm and on scene shortly after with one fire engine in attendance. "Crews requested the isolation of the track which took place and they entered the track area safely and extinguished, the fire involving a tree stump. The fire has been extinguished and crews have left the track."
