World Aquatics introduced its new rules after Thomas beat Olympic silver medallist Emma Weyant by 1.75 sec to win NCAA gold in the women’s 500-yard freestyle in 2022. While it is understood that World Aquatics was prepared to argue the merits of the scientific evidence at Cas, the hearing solely focused on whether Thomas, who is no longer a member of US swimming, was allowed to challenge its rules.
