A chara, – Dublin city centre has become inaccessible for a considerable amount of people in recent years resulting in a reduced footfall across many business thresholds. This reduction outside of the seasonal tourist element is going to have a significant impact on the sustainability for many businesses in the city.
The active travel project being implemented by local authorities is putting the cart before the horse. Without efficient transport modes for families, daily office commuters, the elderly or the disabled, people will choose the most efficient alternative and avoid the city centre. Perhaps if there were free parking at public transport hubs to encourage people to use them, this would be a big step in helping making public transport more appealing.
