The trial of a serving member of An Garda Siochana who is charged in connection with 89 offences of deception, corruption and money laundering has heard a number of cheques from his alleged victims were made out to his partner and lodged into a bank account.

It is alleged that in his role as a public service vehicle inspector he induced named persons at various locations in Co Meath to give him sums ranging from €20 to €250 for fictitious brake test fees, Article 60 licences and cash for fictitious charities.READ MORE: Relative of dog attack victim says she 'treated them like babies' and tributes to 'girl with great heart'

On Day 2 of the trial on Wednesday, June 5, in front of 11 jurors as one juror was released due to ‘difficulties’ evidence was given by Nathan Cunningham of the Financial Crime Unit at Bank of Ireland that a number of cheques ranging in amounts from €25 to €200 from named payees were made out to Mr Doyle’s partner Rebecca Ralph on dates between 2018 and 2020 and lodged into an account number ending in 034.

Mr Doyle is also alleged to have charged several victims €60 each for Article 60 licences which are not subject to a charge. Mr Hanahoe said the third element is reference to a number of charitable donations which are alleged to have been fictitious which Mr Doyle is alleged to have asked some of the alleged victims to make payments to him for the charities.
