Micheál Martin described Carrie Acheson as an 'able and determined public representative' and 'a true community activist'
Ms Acheson was elected as a councillor to South Tipperary County Council in 1974 and won a Dáil seat at the general election in 1981, before losing that seat in the first election of 1982."She was an able and determined public representative, a true community activist, always caring for and advocating on behalf of her constituents."
A former Mayor of Clonmel, she was on the committee of Clonmel Show and its president for many years and was also a familiar voice at the National Ploughing Championships, where she was in charge of the public address for over 30 years. "She continued to play an active role in her community after her retirement from public life," Mr Martin said.He offered sympathy to her son Brian, her sister, the former senator Trás Honan, and her extended family and friends.
