Tributes have poured in following the death of former Lord Mayor of Cork, Brian Bermingham, aged 77. Mr Bermingham passed away while abroad in Spain, with fellow councillors praising his 'tireless commitment and leadership' during his long career in local politics.
Tributes have been paid following the death of former Lord Mayor of Cork Brian Bermingham at the age of 77.
Brian Bermingham was first elected to Cork City Council in 1979, having joined Young Fine Gael as a teenager. He became Lord Mayor of Cork in 2008 - 40 years after his own father John Bermingham took on the same role. A number of politicians have paid tribute to the former Lord Mayor of Cork, with Cork city Cllr Shane O'Callaghan wiring in a social media post: "I’m very sorry to hear about the passing of former Lord Mayor of Cork, Brian Bermingham. Brian gave many years of service to Cork and it’s people as a City Councillor and Lord Mayor and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
