The band are best known for their 1982 hit ‘Pass The Dutchie’, which recently returned to spotlight as key part of the soundtrack for hit Netflix show Stranger ThingsTRIBUTES HAVE been paid to Frederick Waite Jr., drummer of the reggae band Musical Youth who has died aged 55., announced his passing earlier this week.
In a statement, Musical Youth said Waite Jr was a “musical legend” who “inspired many young musicians”. The band formed in 1979 with members Dennis Seaton, Michael Grant, Kelvin Grant, Waite Jr and Patrick Waite., a mashup of U Brown’s. The track that went to number one on the charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.
Fellow Musical Youth band members described Waite as “musical legend” who “inspired many young musicians”. It also reached the top 10 on the US charts and went on to sell over four million copies. The song was released on their 1982 debut album,has found its way back into the spotlight after featuring in the hit television show
