The Trump administration has drastically reduced the operation of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), placing thousands of staff on furlough and halting vital programs. The move has sparked outrage from employees and critics who argue it undermines the agency's mission and jeopardizes global humanitarian efforts.

With all but several hundred staff forced out and funding stopped, the agency has “ceased to exist”, one official on the call said., who is running a budget-cutting Department of Government Efficiency, have targeted USAID hardest so far in an unprecedented challenge of the federal government and many of its programmes.
