Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, has been named as the suspect detained by cops after an incident involving Donald Trump on Sunday - but his son insists he is not violent
The son of a man who allegedly attempted to assassinate Donald Trump has defended his father's "loving and caring" character.
It comes less than two months after Trump was shot in the ear as he delivered a speech at a rally in Pennsylvania. Routh's shocked son, Oran, quickly defended his "loving and caring father" saying: "It doesn't sound like the man I know."READ MORE: Two in five healthcare workers fear Covid-19 vaccine will have serious side-effects, study finds
"Ryan is my father, and I don't have any comment beyond a character profile of him as a loving and caring father, and honest, hardworking man," Oran told CNN, adding: "I don't know what's happened in Florida, and I hope things have just been blown out of proportion, because from the little I've heard, it doesn't sound like the man I know to do anything crazy, much less violent.
In December 2002, Greensboro News and Record in North Carolina said Routh was pulled over for a traffic stop, during which he “put his hand on a firearm”, fled the scene, and then proceeded to barricade himself for three hours inside the building of a roofing business where he worked at the time. He also faced felony charges for possessing stolen goods back in 2010.
