Liz Truss supporting Conservative Growth Group’s plan to pressure Sunak and Hunt to deliver tax cuts revealed 🔴 RichardVaughan1 reports:
will lead a backbench charge demanding the Chancellor deliver targeted tax cuts in next month’s Budget, i can reveal., a new caucus within the Tory party created to pressure the Government into developing more pro-growth policies.
It puts the newly founded group on a collision course with the Chancellor, who has insisted there will be no tax cuts while the Government’s focus is on halving inflation this year. One tax break that the group believes could be abolished is the £7,500 tax free allowance available to people renting a room in their home, which could make way for improved tax relief for childminders.
“We want to work with the Government,” the source said. “We have held discussions with Rishi, he is supportive of it [the group] and we have spoken with Jeremy. We deliberately did not call it the Growth Research Group, this is not a pressure group like the ERG. It is about coming up with ideas about policy.Senior members of the group are attempting to distance themselves from Ms Truss, despite her appearance at the launch event and reports stating that she came up with the name of the caucus.
