Three companies have been chosen to build the $3.5 billion Honda battery plant in Fayette County.
and Yates Construction have been selected to build the plant that the automaker is developing with South Korean battery maker LG Energy Solution. The companies have formed a tri-venture called TYK.that opened in 1982 and the East Liberty Auto Plant that started production in 1989.
The project will have employ about 2,600 trade workers and, at times, as many as 4,000 or 5,000 workers, Manahan said. The plant is expected to be substantially complete by the end of 2024 with production starting in 2025, he said. The project is one of several big industrial projects in Ohio and the Midwest, and Manahan knows the companies are in stiff competition for workers.
