Team name changes are not uncommon in the Formula 1 world with sponsorship deals and branding efforts often prompting new identities for outfits up and down the grid
Two of the 10 Formula 1 teams will undergo a name change ahead of the 2024 season – one more dramatic than the other.
The team currently racing as Scuderia AlphaTauri has had a couple of other guises over the years. It began as Minardi and raced in the world championship for 20 years under that name before it was sold to Red Bull GmbH. The team's new chief executive Peter Bayer has now confirmed that the team's new "identity" has been decided. But he remained tight-lipped over what new name the team will adopt.
A return to Toro Rosso was ruled out early on in the process. Instead, the team has been in discussions with household-name brands over a potential lucrative commercial deal. Hugo Boss has been strongly linked, while recent reports have also pointed to Adidas as a potential title sponsor.
