Two people were hospitalised following a road collision at a St Patrick’s Day parade in Laois. A car smashed into a trailer being pulled by a small train float during the festivities. A woman and young male on the trailer were injured. Spectators rushed to help. No one was arrested and the driver of the car did not suffer injuries. The injured individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Two people were hospitalised following a road collision at a St Patrick’s Day parade in Laois . On Sunday, footage was shared widely across social media, which appeared to show a car smashing into a trailer being pulled by a small train float during festivities in Stradbally. In the video, a trail of tractors can be seen driving along with the motorists clad in green and tricolours draped across each vehicle. A miniature train pulling a carriage then comes into frame.
The steam engine-style train can be seen pulling along a tiny trailer as onlookers watch the parade, before a car appears to slam into the back of the trailer. A woman and young male on the trailer were injured. Spectators were shocked by the collision and rushed to help. The incident occurred at around 11.30am and it is understood that no one was arrested following the incident. The driver of the car did not suffer injuries. A woman in her 30s as well as a male youth were both rushed to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise for treatment where their injuries are understood to be non-life threatening. A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí responded to reports of a road traffic collision on the main street in Stradbally, Co. Laois at approximately 11.30am on Sunday, 17 March
