Ireland's entrants are up against 18 other clever creators for next month's prestigious global accolade

Ergotech is a medical tool for surgeons designed by TU Dublin student George Clarke and Oasis is the work University of Limerick student Joel Olympio who suffers from ADHD. He designed his unique gadget to help all ADHD sufferers.

The Irish inventions have progressed to the international stage of the James Dyson Award. The international top 20 shortlist has been announced and the international winners are unveiled on November 15. Joel has a product design degree from the University of Limerick, and a profound personal connection with ADHD, following his late diagnosis which served as the primary motivation behind this innovative project.

What is Ergotech Ergotech is the second Irish invention on the global shortlist and it has huge potential in the medical sphere. Individuals with the disorder often face significant challenges when it comes to focusing in busy environments. The core symptoms of ADHD including difficulties in sustaining attention and regulating impulses, can make it particularly challenging to filter out distractions in settings with a high sensory load.

The device is powered by two batteries discreetly integrated into the temples, which can be re-charged using the product’s case which doubles as a desk clock to aid timekeeping and reminders. Oasis incorporates a haptic engine to provide tactile feedback and haptic chimes to remind users of time passing and refocusing the mind. For individuals with prescription lenses, a maglens attachment ensures compatibility with their prescription.
