The two men who tragically died during the Ironman triathlon in Cork yesterday have been named as a Canadian accountant and a man originally from Meath.
It is understood that both men died in separate medical emergencies after they got into difficulty - not far from one another, in the water.The Canadian who died has been named locally as 64-year-old Ivan Chittenden, an accountant from Toronto, who was taking part in the event with friends. A garda spokesperson confirmed the incident and said: “Gardaí and emergency services are currently attending the scene of an incident in Youghal Co. Cork where two men have died at a sporting event, this morning, Sunday, 20th August 2023.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of two race participants at the IRONMAN 70.3 Ireland, Cork 2023.
