Why is O'Rourke one of the hottest managerial properties in the game with his services coveted by top counties and clubs across the country?
Malachy O’Rourke appears to be in pole position to land the Tyrone job - with an announcement anticipated early next week.
There was some speculation that double All-Ireland winning under-20 manager Paul Devlin had also been nominated, but that hasn’t been confirmed. O’Rourke has his own trainer, Ryan Porter, who has been his right hand man for all of his big wins, including two Ulster titles with Monaghan and this year’s All-Ireland club triumph with Glen. It is unlikely Tally and Porter would team up in any potential ticket.
The comparisons are striking with O’Rourke, who is from Derrylin in Fermanagh, but has lived in Tyrone for over three decades. O’Rourke later managed his native Fermanagh to an Ulster final in 2008, where they lost out to Armagh in a replay. It was just Fermanagh’s second appearance in the Anglo-Celt decider in 67 years.
