Being the champion was everything Tyson Fury wanted, until it wasn’t.

Fury, the 34-year-old two-time heavyweight boxing champ, opened up to Ariel Helwani about how defeating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 was turning point in his life – for the worse.

“I think it was a s–t night, to be honest. I think it was like a curse,” Fury said. “It’s been a pretty s–tty seven years since. It was a pretty fantastic 27 years leading to it.”Helwani was floored. How could that be when Fury had accomplished everything he’s ever wanted? “You say I got everything I ever wanted. I never really wanted all the fame and all the hype that comes with being the champion,” Fury responded. “That wasn’t what I was about. I got everything I wanted by beating Klitschko – just getting that victory over him. You don’t own your own life anymore. You can’t go anywhere. You can’t live a normal life.

“So, it’s not what I wanted. And it’s not a great life. It sucks d–k. It’s not good because you don’t have your own life anymore. I’m stuck where I have to be talked to people wherever I go. It’s not what I wanted. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, to be fair.”“It was like a curse,” he said. “It’s been a pretty shitty seven years since.”
