is one of the leaders of the conservative rebellion against Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s bid to become Speaker of the House, a story that was still evolving through Wednesday evening with a new round of closed-door negotiations in Washington.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we are making history today,” Perry said. “... Yeah, it’s been about a hundred years . “We believe, and we want to believe, that every person who comes here - left, right, center - has the best intentions for our country. And it’s not about the personalities in this contest. It is not personal for us,” he said.
They also seek a ban on the involvement of House GOP leaders or their affiliated political action committees in future House Republican primaries. McCarthy has managed to hold the support of the vast majority of his Republican conference over the last two days of voting, capturing 201 of the Republican conference’s 222 votes on the last ballot Wednesday afternoon.
Perry also hit that theme in his floor remarks Wednesday, arguing he believes the real person to thank for the Republicans’ retaking of the majority is former Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
