New Year’s Day could beat the hottest ever set in 1916 after a year that saw the coldest January since 2010 and the first ever Amber extreme heat warning issued by the Met Office in July
Friday is to reach a record high of 17C in some parts of the country. The New Year’s Eve record was 14.8C in Colwyn Bay, Wales in 2011.The West Country, London and Lincolnshire, are expected to see the mildest temperatures. Scotland could hit a high of 15C as the UK ushers in 2022.
