Belgium, Ireland and two other EU allies have expelled a total of 43 Russian diplomats over alleged spying, taking to more than 100 the number of Russian officials to be kicked out of European nations this month. It is the second wave of expulsions of Russian diplomats from Bulgaria this month. On March 2, Sofia expelled two Russian diplomats over allegations they had been involved in espionage.Four days before that move, Slovakia's Foreign Ministry said it decided to expel three Russian diplomats following its assessment of information from the country's intelligence services on possible spying and bribery.

The war in Ukraine is not new for the people of Russian-backed Donetsk, who have been at war for the past eight years. The two leaders discussed Russia's position on a humanitarian mission for Mariupol - a Ukrainian city that has come under a barrage of attacks since the war began. They also discussed Russia's decision to request payments in roubles for Russian gas supplies to the European Union, the Kremlin added. Russia is trying to introduce the rouble to"temporarily seized" parts of Ukraine, according to an official in the country.
