Ukrainian forces discovered and took possession of what could be a key piece of Russian military technology, according to the Drive.
The container that Ukrainian forces found outside the capital of Kyiv was identified to be a part of the Krasukha-4 mobile electronic warfare system, which is primarily designed to detect and jam large radar systems. A photo of the equipment was posted to social media on Tuesday, showing the container on its side with branches on top. It’s unclear whether it was a deliberate attempt to hide it or whether it was overturned in some kind of attack.
The technology can spot and jam various types of radar, and it has a maximum range against ground-based and aerial targets of between roughly 90-185 miles in any direction. #Ukraine: We managed to identify this bizarre"container", captured today by the UA forces near #Kyiv. — 🇺🇦 Ukraine Weapons Tracker March 22, 2022 Bowman doesn’t believe that the Ukrainians seizing the Krasukha-4 is “going to be pivotal in shifting the military balance of power,” though he noted the United States could gain a lot of insight into Russian military technology if it can “get our hand on it,” but “that takes time, and that’s more likely something measured in years.”
