Evacuations have now begun, the governor of Kherson Oleksandr Prokudin has said, adding there is just"five hours" until the water will reach"a critical level". In breaking news this morning, a major dam was hit by shelling in the Russian-controlled Kherson region - we'll bring you more on that shortly. Russia said it thwarted another major Ukrainian offensive in Donetsk;Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met the UK's Foreign Secretary James Cleverly in Kyiv;

Both Ukrainian and Russian officials blamed each other for destroying the Kakhovka dam in the southern Kherson region. Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, said in a video posted to Telegram that"the Russian army has committed yet another act of terror", and warned that water will reach"critical levels" within five hours.

Air raid alerts seem to have been sent out across the city, as well as several parts in the east of the country, according to the alerts in Ukraine website.
