Ukrainian armed forces are scrambling to develop counter-measures to Iranian-made “kamikaze” drones used by Russia to launch “swarm” attacks 🔴 Exclusive from cahalmilmo

on Friday, killing one person, although Kyiv insisted it had only caused damage to a base cafeteria. In what appeared to be a more serious attack, another Iranian-made drone struck a military facility and ammunition store overnight on Sunday, causing a large fire.

Serhiy Bratchuk, a spokesman for the Odesa regional government, appeared to confirm the use of multiple drones as a “swarm”, saying: “The enemy is trying to save on missiles… these Shaheds are much cheaper, they can be used much more frequently and in pairs. We are seeing that the enemy can even launch several of these kamikaze drones for one attack.”

The Iranian drones, which include a consignment of larger Mohajer-6 UAVs capable of extended flight while carrying a payload of rockets, appear to be part of a fresh Kremlin attempt to regain the upper hand in that battle for the skies. The Shahed-136 is relatively unsophisticated compared to similar Western drones, in part because Iran is largely reliant on non-military components to build the weapons due to Western sanctions.
