'I am here in Hiroshima so that the world can hear the Ukrainian call for unity'. Relating to the atomic bombings of Japan in 1945, President Zelenskyy says 'Hiroshima is a rebuilt city and we dream of rebuilding all our cities that are now in ruins'.
Biden says he has 'flat assurance' that Ukraine won't use F-16s to go into Russia
Regarding receiving weapons from other nations, he said"Yes, I would really like that. I would like any states who are capable to provide help to us for them to help." Volodymyr Zelenskyy is taking questions from journalists after his address at the G7. "It is only a matter of time before all the criminals in public office want to wage similar wars. If Russia is allowed to keep even a sliver of the territory it occupies, international law will never apply.
The Ukrainian president says"our heroic people are turning history so that we can make war itself become a shadow". "The shadow would be of Ukraine alone and from the whole nation, just a shadow of little grey matter. Ukrainians are infinitely brave, and infinitely freedom-loving. Continuing the news conference at the G7, Joe Biden says the group of industrialised economies is going to"continue to provide humanitarian and security assistance to Ukraine so it can stand strong as long as it needs".
Joe Biden is holding a news conference at the end of the G7 summit in the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Mr Biden visited a memorial to victims of the nuclear bomb dropped on the city at the end of the Second World War on Friday, and he says it was a"powerful reminder of the devastating reality of nuclear war", adding that he shares the G7's"responsibility to never cease our efforts to build peace".
He says"Vladimir Putin will not break our resolve" in supporting Ukraine:"Russia started the war and Russia could end it today by withdrawing its troops from Ukraine's internationally recognised borders and ceasing its assault until then. Since Wagner fighters began attacking it eight months ago, he said, the Russians have been focused on it"psychologically, and militarily as well".
On what Ukraine could do in response, he said:"The Ukrainians could try and take east of Kharkiv... they could try and take another big chunk of territory back again like they did last year."Further details on Ukraine's potential loss of Bakhmut have now emerged.
