Countries look to 'build common ground that will pave the way for peace' after talks in Saudi Arabia

While the Saudi peace talks continue for a second day in Jeddah, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told The New York Times that Moscow was not seeking to claim any further Ukrainian regions - having annexed the territories of Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia since 2014. Starokostiantyniv, roughly halfway between Lviv and Ukraine's capital Kyiv, is home to a military airfield which the region's governor believes was the intended target of the strike.

The MoD says that Russia is using Kh-22 , 5.5 tonne munitions that were originally designed to disable aircraft carriers, to target silos and infrastructure. Elections are set to take place in Russia in September, with Vladimir Putin widely expected to remain in office after his only real opposition, Alexei Navalny, was jailed for a further 19 years for extremism last week.

Sky News has not yet verified the footage, which shows the roof of a large building on fire, with plumes of smoke rising into the air. The move is the latest in a series of changes implemented by the Ukrainian government attempting to"decommunise", or remove any remnant of the Soviet Union - the campaign has ramped up in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Moscow-installed acting governor of Crimea claims Ukraine used a Storm Shadow - a long-range, stealth air-launched cruise missile - to carry out the attack. Therefore, the damage caused tends to be more psychological than physical, albeit the damage to the Black Sea fleet ships might take some time to repair.

The decision to invade Ukraine was President Putin's decision - and his alone - and he has abused his total control of national media to control the narrative to the Russian people.
