The anti-drone units, containing roughly six members, added that they rotate night shifts across the southern city of Mykolaiv. A former British Army chief has told Sky News that Russia is"digging in" as winter comes, posing challenges for Kyiv's forces in Kherson. Harsh winter temperatures in Ukraine coupled with Russia's persistent attacks on the country's energy systems, which has left millions without heating and electricity, have concerned Ukrainian officials and the West.
More than two weeks after the Russians retreated from the city, investigators say five torture rooms have been found in Kherson and at least four more in the wider region. He turned his gun over to the soldiers, and they dragged him from his home in the southern village of Chornobaivka to a prison in the nearby regional capital of Kherson.
Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs says that in the past 24 hours its forces have repelled Russian attacks in regions including Donetsk and Luhansk in the east of the country. The UK Ministry of Defence has said it is likely that over the past three months Russian forces have largely stopped being deployed as Battalion Tactical Groups .
As BTGs were the main Russian formation for the invasion, the indication that they are stopping using them suggests this kind of formation has not worked.Ukraine's president has vowed that his country will"never be a place of devastation" and warned of Russia's continued attacks on energy infrastructure.
The bloc's chief Jens Stoltenberg will call on allies to pledge more winter aid for Kyiv, after Ukraine's president told residents to brace for another week of cold and darkness due to Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. While Russia acknowledges targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure, it denies its intent to hurt civilians. Ukrainian officials have said"we cannot allow Putin to steal our Christmas", as Kyiv plans to erect Christmas trees throughout the city in a defiant display of holiday spirit.
Mr Klitschko said Christmas trees will be installed"to remind our children of the New Year's mood" adding:"I don't want to take Santa Claus away from the children".The city's businesses will sponsor trees throughout Kyiv, including on the Sophia Square in the Old Kyiv neighbourhood.
